What is Microscope?
Microscope is a local-first digital pathology workstation. The browser viewer opens whole-slide images (WSIs), supports annotations and visualization layers, and can connect to an optional Python companion for local analysis. The SDK and node packs are separate installs.
The browser viewer opens local slides and handles annotations without Python. Optional visual workflows send a bounded region or selected layer to a paired local Python companion; the companion receives the selected image data, not an operating-system path to arbitrary browser files.
Choose a first task
- Start with the practical viewer walkthrough, which opens a slide, navigates it, creates an annotation, and saves or exports the work.
- Continue with your first local workflow, or go directly to Python SDK installation.
Product boundaries
Ordinary browser viewing does not require Python. Workflow execution runs in the separately installed local companion; model operations come from separately installed node packs. These tutorials are research software instructions, not clinical validation claims.
